Nail Diary #345

June 15, 2015

YAY!!  It’s summertime!  I live in Iowa and the beaches are not that fab here in the Midwest; I mean once you’ve seen the ocean it is hard to go to a small Iowa Lake beach.  So I figured if I can’t take myself to a proper beach then I will put the beach on my nails.  Sounds logical right 😉

Here is how I got beach nails:

On my thumb, index and pinky I used a base of Zoya Rowan a satin nude polish.  Then I took Square Hue ala moana deep sky blue that has a blue shimmer and did a sponge gradient to resemble the sky over the sandy beach.

On my middle and ring fingers I used China Glaze Sun of a Peach a neon orange that freaks out my camera.  This color is way brighter in real life.

I loved this color combo but I felt like I needed to do some stamping to complete the beachy theme.

On the sand and sky nails I stamped on some waves using an image from BM-504 first using Square Hue ka’ahumanu a teal blue to give depth and then once again using white to represent ocean foam.

On my happy neon nails I added starfish from BM-503 using Square Hue ka’ahumanu.  OK I love teal over the  orange neon, who knew.

I really love how these turned out, now let’s all find a real beach 🙂

Happy polishing!

Nail Diary #288

August 11, 2014

Oh hello Monday, you came back so soon.  I have a happy flowery skittle mani to share with you today.  But first, I have a confession.  Took my daughter school shopping Friday but we just had to stop at two Sally Beauty Supply stores to check out their half off red tag sale.  I got 13 new hues.  Mostly China Glaze; 11 out of the 13 were half off red tag, so under $2.00 a bottle.  How could I pass up that deal??  A lot of these are from the China Glaze Summer 2014 Off Shore Collection, so dreamy!!

So the colors used for my flowery skittle creation are mostly from that last Sally haul:

Pepto Pink is Feel the Breeze

Peachy Orange is If in doubt, Surf it out

Lemon yellow is Sun upon my Skin

Pistachio green is Be more Pacific

Tiffany blue is one I already had in my collection For Audrey

Once I got each color on my digits like skittles (I did three coats of each color) and they were completely dry I added some fun bundle monster stamping images with my Konad black stamping polish.

The bundle monster plates I used are as follows:

The two daisy like flowers on thumb, middle and ring finger are from BM-016

Hibiscus type flower on my pinky is from BM-225

Butterflies on index finger are from BM-205

I think these turned out pretty darn cute.  I did add a matte top coat over my stamping.  I thought it made the colors pop more.

I just love how the pastel colors are semi neon.

I am pretty happy with my recent binge polish buy you just gotta love that kind of a deal 🙂

Just for fun “Mani Cave” pictures

Hey polish lovers.
Today while I was hibernating at home watching Real Housewives in my mani cave mindlessly playing candy crush the sun came out, oh the glorious sun!!! It inspired me to take some pics of my cave in other words “my happy place”.
I thought hmmm why not share the pictures with you guys?!? Just a glimpse into my work space. I mean only people who read and or follow nail blogs would really get my “mani cave” or possibly understand my obsession with nail polish.
Maybe you will appreciate the fact that I have the little bottles of fun displayed like art on my walls; truthfully having them displayed out in the open really leads to manicure inspirations.

So grab a coffee or a cocktail and sit back and enjoy some photos of my “happy place”, the place where the manis are created.

Hope you enjoy!

Happy Thanksgiving week!
I am super excited for a short work week.
I can hardly believe the holidays are upon us already.
Even though we have snow on the ground here in Iowa I am still doing fall colored nails. Traditionally I don’t hit the Christmas/Winter switch until after turkey day.
Tonight I have another 3:2 mani with matte nail polish, glitter and stamping.
For my 3: my pinky, index and thumbs I used a matte Sinful Colors polish called Laced Up. Laced Up is a dark orange coral color from the Leather Luxe Collection; the polishes in this collection dry matte no top coat needed.
I absolutely love this collection (obsessed with matte look); I believe I bought every color in this collection, shhhh don’t tell my husband, lol.
For my 2: my ring and middle fingers I added a Hard Candy polish called Peach Pop.
Peach Pop is a creamy peach color with red and silver glitters. I believe this one is from the Hard Candy sprinkles collection. It reminds me of dessert, very fitting for Thanksgiving week. I found my Hard Candy polish earlier this year at Walmart for a reasonable $4 each.
Of course I just had to put a stamp on it.
For me the best way to tie together a color combo is to add a stamp. You don’t necessarily need a stamp on every nail, I just added the stamp on the Peach Pop nails this time. Using my Bundle Monster stamping plate BM-H12 I stamped on the pumpkin and leaf image with Laced Up.
I think it really the stamp completed the look.
I have a turkey stamp I have my eye on, hopefully I will have time to play with it before Thursday.

Nail Diary #186

Monday July 8, 2013
Tonight I have summery nails to show you.
Colors used on pinky, middle and thumb China Glaze Mimosa’s Before Mani’s.
It’s a fun peachy/coral color from 2013 Avant Garden Collection.
To add some contrast I used Maybelline Color Show polish Denim Dash. I typically don’t buy this brand but I came across it for 50% off at the local drug store, the addict in me couldn’t pass it up. This denim blue has a fun silver shimmer finish. It dries semi matte but I added my Seche Vite top coat for more shine.
These colors were pretty together but I went ahead and put a stamp on it; decided on the butterfly and flowers image from Pueen Plate 39.
On the coral nails I used the denim polish with SquareHue Yellow Submarine.
And on the denim nails I used coral and yellow polish for the stamp.
The results are very subtle and so pretty. I love the two tone effect on the stamping image.

PS aren’t my thumbellina zinnias pretty? I started them from seed in my patio pots! So tiny and cute.
